I'one thousand currently playing on Beta Version 1.6.5 - yes, I know, practically prehistoric, but I'thou working on a couple of very specific projects in my world, have been for years, and updates that came out following that version would have changed or ultimately broken things I'm trying to practise. I play offline consistently and then I don't even update by blow, and I'thou using a Macbook Pro, OSX Yosemite. While trying to proceed with my gargantuan project a couple of weeks ago, something I did acquired the world to crash; now, every time I try to boot up that world, it immediately crashes, the program written report only visible for a split second before the whole window goes black, so I tin can't even share what the official problem log is. I have a backup of my hard drive from six months ago; reverting to my Minecraft save file equally it was back and then would cost me some progress, but it's nothing I wouldn't happily redo. Apple technicians, however, are not sure if reverting my hard bulldoze to a backup version from months ago would revert the state of my Minecraft world, given that it's a third-party program. I was brash to ask people more knowledgeable near the subject area earlier doing anything, so here I am.
Again, it'due south Beta Version 1.6.v, I'm on a Macbook, I will not update (for a number of reasons), and I cannot afford to kickoff over given how much work I've put into what I'm trying to do. All I want to know is if my Minecraft world is saved on my computer's hard drive so that reverting to a backed-up version of the hard bulldoze would revert to an older relieve file on my Minecraft globe; I don't see how that could be affected past what version I'1000 playing, just I wanted to go far clear anyhow. Delight and cheers.

Non sure if this would work if she's using the old launcher.
I'k not then sure this would work for a version that old, but crash reports are stored in .minecraft/crash-reports. Check for the about recent ane and do a pastebin link, then we might be able to figure out what'due south going on.

Is that online? Because if so, I can tell you correct at present, the site doesn't recognize my program when I start it upwardly anymore - when trying to figure out what was going on with this, I booted up the game without turning off my internet for the kickoff time in well over a year I call back, and when I tried to log in, it said it couldn't connect and I HAD to play offline. That would be great - a relief, even, knowing I can't update by accident - were it non for this problem…Maybe that's why the display only stays upwardly for a split 2d before going black? This is what I get for being and then adamant to stay in Beta one.6.5, I gauge. I'm sad I had to make this so hard. Specifically, I broke some sandstone to make sand a couple of blocks underwater fall into a skeleton dungeon, that'southward what crashed everything, if that helps…
Honestly, though, fifty-fifty if we could effigy out exactly what the problem was, I'm not sure annihilation could be done to fix information technology. I desire to know if reverting to a backup version of my difficult drive from months ago would revert the save file. Would that work, or no? Again, I don't at all mind losing some progress, I've worked on this for years and a setback of a few months isn't much at this point - it'south my own fault for sticking with such an old version anyhow - and as far every bit the rest of the files on my computer go, I've already put everything I'd want to preserve on a flash drive. I just desire to become back to work, doing things the hard way.

The new launcher looks like this:
And the sometime one looks similar this:
The icons are also slightly unlike. The new launcher's icon is a bit brighter looking.
The new launcher allows yous to fix profiles so that you lot can continue using Beta i.6.v for your main world, and update to release 1.8.ix for other things.
As for repairing a world that'southward crashing on startup, the only luck I've ever had is using MCEdit to remove the block that'south causing the crash. The only problem is, you have to know which block(due south).

einsteinsci is talking almost a subfolder inside the .minecraft folder. You'll be happy to know that information technology isn't stored online, its on your difficult drive. And yous'll likewise be happy to know that the Apple technicians you talked to know nothing about computers or how they work. Your minecraft world is saved to your computer. Its within a subfolder in the .minecraft folder. Fifty-fifty if you lot don't know how to detect information technology, information technology is stored on your difficult bulldoze, and then restoring the backup would restore the world file to the fill-in point, provided you did a full backup and not just a fractional backup.
All the same, since y'all probably wouldn't savour losing 6 months of work, I'll tell you how to observe the globe file and the crash written report. Here'southward how to observe information technology on Lion or subsequently, x.7+ (Not sure where Yosemite falls on this, simply I'd assume its after Lion.)
I would advise against this get-go method, equally information technology volition show all the hidden files on your computer.
Open "Terminal" (located at /Applications/Utilities) and execute this command (shows all subconscious folders and files): defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles True
Then in "Final" use this control to close your find process: killall Finder
Restart Finder and all subconscious folders should now be visible.
Now, in Finder, click on your User folder, then Library, Then Awarding Support. Your Minecraft folder is listed here.
To hide hidden files/folders in Finder execute this command in Final (then restart Finder): defaults write com.apple tree.Finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
Alternatively, you can execute this command from Terminal to open your "Application Back up" folder in a Finder window: open ~/Library/Application\ Back up/
You can also use this command in Concluding to only unhide the library folder:
chflags nohidden ~/Library
Go on in mind that once yous're in Application Support, in that location is no .minecraft folder. That binder is specific to Windows operating systems. You're looking for a folder called minecraft, without the . in front. Inside there y'all should discover folders called bin, saves, and peradventure crash-reports. If the crash-reports folder is in there, please post the crash reports for us then nosotros can assistance y'all figure out what's causing the crash.
Promise this helps. And as a future-mistake-proofing tip, I'd recommend becoming familiar with the minecraft folder on your Mac. Once you get the world working again, you can brand a copy of your earth before playing. If y'all keep ii to 3 old copies of the world then you can restore those if you run into future bug. This will only set up yous back a day or two, instead of a possible 6 months.

Okay, I followed your directions and establish the folder, but I can't observe anything called "Crash Reports", or even anything remotely resembling that. Given that, what can I do with the files to fix the globe? I honestly don't sympathise what most of the documents in here mean, and under the "region" folder at that place are almost a gazillion of what I assume are chunks…? I've expanded the world to a ridiculous size trying to gather the rare materials I'm using for my projection, I'1000 not certain if that affects anything…this was interesting, though, and I capeesh you leading me this far!
I'chiliad just not sure what to do from here. Any further advice?

It could as well be nether 'logs' - that version of minecraft may non actually generate proper crash reports

Nope, aught like that at all - there's a folder called "data", which is full of map data; a folder called DIM-1, which is full of what I assume are superchunks or something; a file called level.dat and a file called level.dat_old that I'm afraid to open considering they're files; a folder chosen "region", which is full of the probably-chunks I mentioned in the previous post; and a file called session.lock, which I'thousand also agape to open because it'due south a file. The idea of opening a file from inside a bigger program only to encounter what it is makes me nervous, it feels like taking out part of a car without knowing what it does or how it goes into the whole…merely perhaps the session.dat files are what you're looking for, they were made the concluding two times I booted upward the game based on the time stamps. Is information technology safe to open them? I'thousand pitiful, I'm horrible with computer stuff. V_V

Oh you're looking within the save binder! You should exist looking in "/Users/(username)/Library/Application Back up/minecraft"

Opening any of the files is safe provided you don't edit or relieve the files once you lot're done looking within them. Notwithstanding, opening those files may not e'er be an piece of cake task. Well-nigh of those files are not readable by humans, fifty-fifty if you manage to open them. I believe you are correct about the region files. I know in the current version of minecraft, those files store large sections of chunks, however, you are using an one-time version that may accept predated the whole MCRegion manner. Beta 1.six.5 isn't really really old though, so there is a good chance it might be saved using MCRegion.
Unfortunately, I'k non very knowledgeable about map repair; I took the back up oft and don't worry nearly having to ready it approach. You could try making a copy of your save on your desktop and compressing it equally Ritter_Kaldor suggested. Make certain you re-create the save data, and not cut it. If yous cut information technology, then you're essentially moving the file, simply copying it will create another version of it. That mode if yous mess upwardly something during compression it won't have whatsoever affect on the world. In one case its compressed, I'd suggest having Ritter_Kaldor take a look at it.

Ah. Yes…in the entire minecraft binder, at that place are files called ".DS_Store", "options.txt", and "lastlogin"; at that place are also folders called "bin", "resource", "saves", "screenshots", "stats", and "texture packs". Over again, nothing remotely resembling "crash reports", unless that "lastlogin" file is information technology…do you want me to open that?

try the 'stats' binder, since that seems to be the only folder remotely shut to a 'crash reports' or 'logs' folder.

Umm…"stats_player_unsent.dat" and "stats_player_unsent.old" were made around the time I concluding tried to play - there are two other files from two years ago, I doubt they're relevant. Should I look at these?

Oh. Okay then - cheers for leading me through these files in any case, it's been very educational. Without the log, is there anything else I can do? Or should I just restore my sometime hard drive? If the latter, I would really appreciate instructions on how to re-create my Minecraft world in case this happens again. Also, that copy and shrink and send thing would be a bit much for me to try, I don't trust myself even with the almost detailed instructions for something like that…once again, I'm sad for making this difficult. V_V Thank you once more for all your help either way, though!
